Description:

"The Shrine" is a story telling, walking simulator type horror game developed for the 2020 Epic Games MegaJam. The character walks through a part of the forest, owned by her family, in Midorigahara, while narrating the story of a Buddhist monastery in the same forest, owned by her grandfather, but resided by an unseen evil force. The narrator says that whatever haunts the monastery has been there for a long time, but she's not done yet!

Additional Note:

All the assets used in the game, except the buddhist monastery pack and horror engine, are from another ongoing Cava Games project.

This game was developed by one person in a time of mere 4 days (I was living under a rock and I found out that the Jam started 2 days after it started)

This game may have a lot of bugs and glitches, because it was made on a Laptop which isn't even considered a gaming laptop, and literally has a 940MX as GPU, and I also had Unreal crash on me several times while making this game. So, I apologize for that.

I wanted to add a longer story, but my laptop was barely holding it together while working on this game.

Voice Acting was done by my girlfriend who lives 7000+ miles away, so we had to use instagram to record and transfer the dialogues, so we're sorry about any glitches with the Dialogue system in the game.

System Requirements:

Well.. anything better than my laptop..

My Laptop's specs are:

i5 @2.50gHZ

940MX 4gb

16gb RAM

If you have a GPU better than mine, you're good to go:)

Controls:

Movement: W,A,S,D

Camera (look): Mouse

This game is very beautiful and I look forward to a full release!

Thanks for playing my game:)

I really appreciate your review:)

As of now, I can't really make it into a full version since my laptop isn't that powerful enough, but I'll do my best:) make sure to follow me to stay updated about the progress.

Of course! And will definitely be following!

It's a nice interesting game. It's also interesting to have the back story told by the main character while the actual story played out. Nice touch on that. I look forward to this game.

Here's my channel for other games I have played. http://www.youtube.com/c/Levont

Thank you for playing my game:)

I wish to make it into a full length game, I already have a script for 8+ hours gameplay ready, just the fact that my hardware won't handle it is the only thing stopping me. I would've added more gameplay but Unreal Engine 4 crashed 17 times while making this, and it really slowed me down. That was one of the reasons why I had to remove the sprinting feature as to give the player atleast a few minutes of gameplay to go through the story.

Great job! It was starting so calm and relaxing... and then BOOM! Haha! I wanna see more!

Hello:)

Thanks for playing my game. I loved your reacting 😂. I'm glad you enjoyed it. And I'm not really sure about a part 2, my laptop isn't that good, and Unreal Engine had crashed over 5 times while making this game. So if I'm able to buy a new laptop or something, I'll definitely make a 2nd part:))

Amazing game dev :D

Hello:)

Thanks for playing my game. I actually felt really good seeing the game run at such a good frame rate. My laptop (on which it was developed) can't even run it at 20fps. Thanks for posting a gameplay. I'm glad you liked it.
